ETH Zurich is one of the world’s leading universities specialising in science and technology. It is renowned for its commitment to education, its cutting-edge fundamental research, and its efforts to put new knowledge and innovations into practice. The Institute for Learning Sciences and Higher Education chaired by Prof. Manu Kapur is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position in ethics education with a focus on play- and game-based learning environments.
Postdoctoral Position in Ethics Education
The Future Learning Initiative at ETH Zurich is recruiting a motivated scholar for a postdoctoral project at the intersection of bioethics/medical ethics, biology, and technology. The project will: (1) investigate how to effectively enhance learning strategies as to foster scientific integrity and responsible innovation among students and early-career researchers; and (2) develop innovative and evidence-based tools, including gamification to foster ethics education in the STEM disciplines. This interdisciplinary project will expand ongoing programs for ethics education at ETH Zurich and develop new tools to identify and analyze ethical issues in science, technology, and innovation. Specifically, we propose a systematic design, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive program of research on the learning of ethics at ETH, where ETH graduates not only learn about ethical issues but are enculturated into a culture of ethical conduct and social responsibility.
A suitable candidate for this position would be someone with a strong background in the learning sciences or a related field, a focus on play- and game-based learning environments as well as an interest in contemporary ethical issues in STEM. Familiarity with bioethics research is helpful but not required. This position will include training in the principles of ethics and bioethics.
